Central Coast Council

The state government has called for a new strategy to be developed for the region to better deliver development, new business and jobs.

Demand for housing in the Central Coast has surged in recent years and is expected to increase once the NorthConnex tunnel is complete, enabling the movement of more than 100,000 vehicles per day.

The Greater Sydney Commission will now work closely with Central Coast parliamentary secretary Adam Crouch, the local council and private sector partners, to identify wider economic and employment opportunities for the region.

“I have asked the GSC to bring together key stakeholders on the Central Coast to identify new opportunities for economic and employment growth in the region,” NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

“The state government is committed to providing more jobs on the Central Coast, a region which is expected to grow by 95,250 people between 2016 and 2041.”

Located in the centre of the fast-growing corridor between Sydney and Newcastle, the NSW Central Coast region has become a hotspot for city-dwellers seeking lower-cost housing or a lifestyle change, either in the hinterland or on the coast.

“This move by the Premier and Mr Crouch brings real prospects for leadership at this moment of crisis and will build confidence to invest on the Central Coast,” UDIA NSW chief executive Steve Mann said.

“The move will elevate the position of the Central Coast, providing focus and direction for the economic development of this region.

“It will improve confidence for investment and bring more jobs to the region.”
